Wikileaks, Julian Assange and free speech

It is not an exaggeration to say that the Wikleaks story has been the biggest one this year – bigger than any election or hung parliament. Wikileaks and Julian Assange have managed to split public opinion: is he irresponsible or a hero of free speech.

I am a big fan of Antony Loewenstein and I suggest you check out his blog’s many entries on wikileaks for an excellent understanding of why Wikileaks is an important development.

I have taken a much more circumspect position and have attempted to look at the complexities of the issues involved.  I wrote this article in that reflects on the hypocrisy of our leaders as well as the responsibilities associated with free speech…
